WOW! Trade week is almost over and a lot has come out of it! For Dreamteam I think there are some definite prospects who have been traded. Richard Tambling is hoping to rejuvenate his career at Adelaide, will he do it? NO. Here is some advice; do not get Tambling in your Dreamteam, he will take a while to fit into the Crows midfield- if he does at all! And he will probably not be spending as much time on the ball as he did at Richmond.

IF Andrew Walker is to move to Port Adelaide, he is a definite consideration for my team. First thing is first, he needs to get his body right. An injury-free preseason will put him on the shortlist for my 2011 DT. He averaged 77 this year and struggled through injury, however he wont have a discount as he played 15 games. Still I would consider him if he is fit.

More updates will come after the draft, but for now we know that young Liberatore is going to the dogs- he is a ball magnet and suits the DT scoring system- look out for him!

I will be writing more soon, so subscribe and share this blog! Thanks 🙂

Hi All, first of all sorry for the lack of posts lately, but this is just something for you to consider for your team in ’11.

Last year players who played less than 8 games received discounts, generally, although there were some odd exceptions. For each amount of discount there were also some exceptions. This is how it worked; REFERENCE TO FANFOOTY’s MONTY.

Yes, you will notice a common theme running through the stats of all these players: seven, eight or nine games played last year, apart from Tiller. This is a change of the “rules” from last year whereby playing 6 games or more disqualified a player from any kind of discount.

20% discounts

Similarly, this group all played one to six games last year. Last year there was some position-based delineation over who got what percentage discount, but this seems to have been abandoned for the moment.

Jack Steven, SK CTR. DT $200,400, SC $210,300. 1 games at 76 DT, 66 SC.
Colin Garland, ME BAC. DT $195,100, SC $293,200. 1 games at 74 DT, 92 SC.
Brodie Martin, AD CTR. DT $188,500, SC $221,500. 2 games at 71.5 DT, 69.5 SC.
Xavier Clarke, BL CTR/BAC. DT $168,500, SC $227,900. 7 games at 63.3 DT, 70.6 SC (2008 figures, missed 2009).
Josh Hunt, GE BAC. DT $164,100, SC $252,300. 20 games at 61.7 DT, 78 SC (2008 figures, missed 2009).

Your guess is as good as anyone’s as to why Clarke and Hunt are in this category instead of the next one. As with most analysis of the reasoning for these discounts, it’s a waste of time as they’re only going to change it again next year anyway.

50% discounts
Beau Waters, WC BAC. DT $152,800, SC $151,100. 8 games at 68.9 DT, 56.3 SC (2008 figures, missed 2009).
Austin Wonaeamirri, ME FWD. DT $138,700, SC $177,900. 18 games at 62.5 DT, 66.1 SC (2008 figures, missed 2009).
Jesse W. Smith, SK BAC. DT $137,900, SC $220,100. 2 games at 55.5 DT, 73 SC (2008 figures, missed 2009).
Robert Warnock, CA RUC. DT $101,800, SC $132,200. 9 games at 45.9 DT, 49.1 SC (2008 figures, missed 2009).
Henry Playfair, SY FWD (rookie). DT $101,800, SC $107,400. 11 games at 51.3 DT, 62.5 SC (2008 figures, missed 2009).
Wayde Skipper, HW RUC (rookie). DT $95,800, SC $101,400. 1 games at 43 DT, 41 SC (2008 figures, missed 2009).

This replaces the old 42% rule, for the most part.

Finally, there are a handful of outliers. Matt Maguire, Rohan Bail, Trent West and Andrew L. Browne get dragged down to at or near prices of $101,500/$99,200. Sean Rusling should really have been priced at the $101,500/$99,200 given he played one match in 2008 for a score of 18 in both DT and SC, but he has been given the seemingly arbitrary prices of $128,900/$161,700. Don’t ask me, I have no idea why.

Note that in 2009 only players who played less than 5 or 6 games got discounts, this is why I have included players in the following post that have played 11 games in 2011. Remember they are POSSIBLE discount players. And if they do get a discount it would only be 10% or less. So these are my considered players;

Possible Discount Players (Which are Up For Selection)

Leroy Jetta (Played 11 Games)

Paul Bower (Played 11 Games)

Liam Anthony (Played 7 Games) Possibly a 20-30% discount.

Hamish Hartlett (Played 4 Games) Possibly a 40% discount I would assume.

Shaun Grigg (Played 8 Games)

Jed Adcock (Played 9 Games)

Andy Otten (Played 0 Games) High discount. Possibly 50%

Drew Petrie (Played 2 Games) High discount, 40-50% i reckon. Also only averaged 50 pts per game so before discount his price will be still incredibly low.

Nick Riewoldt (Played 11 Games)

Robbie Gray (Played 11 Games) even without a discount he still had a low average this year- for what he can do!

OK So there you have it. All you need to know so far about 2011 discount players, leave a comment or query 🙂 and remember to subscribe to this blog 😀

The Dees are a developing young side and will have many second year players in 2011. However, I do not recommend getting on either Scully or Trengove! They will both be overpriced and will gain more attention from opposition, the 2nd year player curse may strike!

However, my hot pick for 2011 is Luke Tapscott. The MID/FWD didn’t pay this year due to injury and will burn in 2011. He was in the first round of draft picks and is from the amazing footy school of Prince Alfred College (where Trengove is from).

I would also recommend Jack Watts up forward. he only averaged around 50 this year which will leave him with a low price , however, he got better as the year went on.

However there are some NO-NOES :D. Especially Brad Green who had a great 2010, but he will not make my 2011 team due to his age.

[MID] Discount Scenario- Which Value Pick?

There is currently positioning for 1 Value Pick and 1 Rookie (possibly a value pick if salary cap allows).

Priority 1: Liam Anthony, averaged 95, likely to have a 40-50% discount.

Priority 2: Hamish Hartlett, averaged 79, likely to have a 30-40% discount. However Hamish is injury prone (a preseason injury will end his chances in the squad.) If salary cap allows it he will be up for selection in the rookie position of the midfield.

Priority 3: Leroy Jetta, averaged 73, possibly will have a 10% discount. If salary cap allows it he will be up for selection in the rookie position of the midfield.

Priority 4: Shaun Grigg, averaged 84, likely to have a 10-20% discount. If available in [DEF] he will be up for selection as a value pick. If salary cap allows it he will be up for selection in the rookie position of the midfield.

Richmond are a very young and developing team. Therefore there is a a lot of value for a lot of their players. For example, this years Coleman Medalist; Jack Riewoldt. “The better Riewoldt” (in my view) keeps getting better every year and is a lock for my team in 2011. Other developing players include Robin Nahas, who had an average start to 2010 but got better as the year went on. In his 3rd year in the AFL if he has a good preseason and gets his body right; he can be a star.

Other consistent players include Shane Tuck, Mitch Morton and Trent Cotchin. But avoid the man who probably would have won this years rising star. Dustin Martin will have a huge price tag in 2011 considering the 2nd year player curse may strike him. Other 2nd year players on the Richmond list should also be avoided unless they have a great pre-season.

My value pick for 2011 is Jake “push-up” King. He got better as the year went on so watch him in the preseason because if he gets going (like in round 22) he can put up nice scores. However, he has a lot to work on, so he can play more time in the midfield!

Hi, this is a start of a new segment were I will go through and analyze each team’s list in the AFL as their DT prospects and best players and value picks. The first team I will do is Port Adelaide (in this post)…

Port have some great DTers, but then there are some which are complete rollercoaster rides. Starting with positives, great players which are still developing like Travis Boak, Robbie Gray and Hamish Hartlett. The positive is that injury has kept Gray and Hartlett from scoring they way they would have, so for us DT coaches this is great news; they will be very underpriced. Such as Hamish Hartlett, who is, by some, regarded as the best current Port Adelaide player; because he has only played 4 games in 2010 he will have heavy price discounts. Then Robbie Gray who has struggled with injury in ’10 and only managed to average 70 points per game. This can be further raised if Gray plays more often in the midfield and gets his body right, in fact Gray is known as Port Adelaide’s Gary Ablett. Now, the man who will win their 2010 B&F and is probably their best current player (in my opinion); Travis Boak. Travis averaged around 95 this season but found his best form late as in his last two games he scored very highly with 3 goals and 30+ possesions two weeks in a row. Travis is still developing as a player and his body is too; Travis Boak is a lock for my 2011 Dreamteam side.

Now, who to avoid? First off I would like to say although Dom Cassisi, Matt Thomas and Tom Logan are all hard-nuts and tackle well they are not and never will be great DT players. Avoid them at all costs. Then you have rollercoasters like David Rodan who returns from LARS Surgery and scores highly a few weeks in a row then all of a sudden plummets. Then he is up one week down the next, don’t go for him unless he has a consistent pre-season.

Then you have your possible cheap value picks. The two I would recommend are Jay Schulz and Justin Westhoff. Recently the pair have played very well largely due to Matt Primus at the helm. They (especially Schulz) will be very underpriced in 2011 for what they are capable of and could go as a 6 or 7th forward.

In the next few days I will be reviewing Richmond, so if you want to be notified about this post click SUBSCRIBE. Also leave a comment below, do you agree or disagree about my opinions? Thanks for reading 🙂

For the loser of Geelong vs. St.Kilda, there will be hell to pay.

The loser will play at their home ground against either Fremantle or Hawtorn (Most likely the Hawks) and considering Hawthorn are currently so unpredictible and have Grand Final winning experience; they are not a team you want to play in September. They have matched up well and played in blockbusters this year against Geelong, they also beat them in the ’08 Grand Final. Hawthorn also shared a draw with St. Kilda earlier in the season in one of the highest quality games of footy this year.

Even if either St.Kilda or Geelong beats Hawkthorn or Fremantle they will then have to go on to face the Premiership favourites Collingwood (regarding they defeat the Western Bulldogs). This will be an epic clash if it happens and will destroy either team’s finals aspirations.

In conclusion; for the winner, they get a home Prelim Final and are likely to be playing the wounded Western Bulldogs. The loser will have to face the mighty Collingwood Magpies at their home (thanks to the AFL Draw) MCG.

As we all know the addition of GC into the AFL is shaking up DT 2011. The Salary Cap has been released and it is $8,212,500. This is the same as AFL clubs. However this has little effect on player pricing, as we don’t yet know 2011’s “magic number”; hopefully it is released soon.

Gold Coast Players which have played AFL will have discounts on their pricetag (which will come from past averages). Head to Head is now going to start in round 1 but will not happen on the 5 weeks were 3 teams have byes.

Overall DT 2011 is looking good. Subscribe and you will be sent email updates whenever i post, therefore you will get instant DT updates.

The illustrious career of Gary Ablett has already had much success already and he is only 26 years old. He has won two premierships and is in strong contention for this years as well! He has also won a Brownlow Medal and the AFL Players Association MVP, three times over.

However, this is Geelong’s last year at the top. They have an old list and next year, I believe, it will all come crashing down. Paul Chapman, this years Geelong X Factor is likely to never be the same again as he is now almost 29 years old and injury is begging to become a problem. Also the Geelong forward-line is OVER, Cam Mooney is finished. Pods is a flat track bully. Tommahawk cant take the best defender or stand up in a big game. Stevie J only kicks his amazing goals when the going is easy at Skilled Stadium. After this year Geelong will no longer be a force.

On the other hand Gold Coast is a very developing club. In 4 or 5 years they will likely be the best team in the AFL, this is because they have every good draft pick in this years draft. With good recruiting they should win a flag by 5 or 6 years in the AFL. Gary Ablett could be apart of this team if he chooses to put on the Red jersey.

Also, Nathan Ablett has been used as a lure for Gary. Nathan (Gary’s brother) has signed with Gold Coast and is expected to play in 2011.

Will the brothers re unite? expect to find out this week! I believe they will… and of course Gary’s offered 1.5 M dollars per year shakes thing up a bit.

Friday Night at the MCG: Geelong vs. St.Kilda

The Cats have a ripping first quarter, Gary Ablett kicks two goals and has plenty of the footy in the first period. In the second quarter Leigh Montagna, Lenny Hayes and Nick Dal Santo lead the way as the Saints fight their way back into the game. Nick Riewoldt kicks his third goal and the game is level at half time. The third quarter is all Saints again as they set up a 5 goal lead going into the last quarter. Geelong make an amazing comeback but Cam Mooney misses a shot on the siren!

Saints win by 3 points.

Saturday at Subiaco: Fremantle vs. Hawthorn

The Hawks begin the game incredibly and by half time Buddy has kicked 6 and the Hawks lead by 48 points. However Freo attempt to get back into the game and the crowd really gets into it!! They reduce the margin to 24 points at three quarter time and Pavlich scores his fourth. But the Hawks midfield starring Burgoyne and Hodge put on a clinic and run away with the game in the last. Rioli and Roughead each score 2 goals and Franklin scores 8.

Hawthorn win by 39 points.

Saturday Night at the MCG: Bulldogs vs. Collingwood

The bulldogs miss Adam Cooney in the middle and the Magpies midfield starring Dane Swan keep winning the centre clearances, up forward Travis Cloke kicks 2 goals but an incredible Leon Davis goal sets the crowd on fire! The Dogs ease their way back into the contest in the 2nd and reduce the margin to 19 points. However the Magpies continue to triumph through to the end and the Pies have a big win. Swan stars with 41 possessions.

Collingwood win by 54 points.

Sunday at ANZ Stadium: Swans vs. Carlton

The Swans give it all they can and at half time Goodes has kicked 2 and has had 20 touches. They have a 21 point lead but in the second half Carlton come back, lead by their captain Chris Judd who racks up his 33rd possesion just before three quarter time, the Blues have a 9 point lead. In the last quarter the Swans reduce the margin to 1 point with seconds to go, but their final inside 50 entry results in a Paul Bower mark. Bower is a hero and Judd colects 42 possessions!

The Blues win by 1 point.

In conclusion, the Swans and Fremantle are both eliminated, meanwhile the Blues and Hawks go through to the next round and The Bulldogs and Geelong will face them.
